Fearless Learning: Non-Traditional Instruction

Last Updated: 8/19/2020 6:55 PM

As changes continue to shift the direction of education this year, this web page will continue to be used to provide our students and their families with access to our methods of  Fearless Learning: Non-Traditional Instruction. Below, you will find five infographics that detail the ways we will help students access, connect, engage and assess their work. High school students should check email or Google Classroom to access new instruction. Should you have any questions on how these operate, please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal.

Starting Monday, April 6th, Yellow Springs Schools will be sharing Non-Traditional Instruction plans for grades 1-12 in each grade's Google Classroom. Kindergarten students will join their classmates on the online platform Seesaw. Here are four different links that may come in handy over the next few weeks.

Beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020, Yellow Springs Schools implemented "non-traditional instruction/distance learning plans." It is here where you can find educational materials and instructions from each teacher and their email address.

If you do not have regular internet access at home, a paper copy will be accessible to families upon request.

During this three-week closure, teachers are available to respond to email, address student academic questions and serve as a resource for students and parents this Tuesday, March 17 through Thursday, March 19, 2020, and then again the week of Monday, March 30 through Friday, April 3, 2020. We will honor our regularly scheduled Spring Break time of Friday, March 20 through Friday, March 27, 2020.

Our goal with our non-traditional instruction/distance learning plan is to keep students connected to their academic studies. This is not a replacement for face-to-face instruction. As one of these weeks was our spring break, teachers have been asked to provide approximately two weeks of “distance learning” work for students. This would translate to approximately two to three hours per day. The work provided for students in some courses, particularly at the secondary level (e.g. AP courses), may be of a heavier nature. This will not be new instruction. We do not want to put parents in a position to have to teach children content with which they may be unfamiliar or uncomfortable. This work is designed to reinforce previous instruction, be supplemental to current instruction, or to provide skill intervention.

This page will continue to change and develop.
