Good Afternoon Yellow Springs Students and Families,
At last night’s board meeting, The Bulldog Blueprint 3.0: 2nd Semester Transition Plan was approved by the Board of Education. This plan details the procedures for returning to school on a 50% basis, 4 days a week. This plan is tentatively set to begin at the start of the second semester, January 19, 2021.
I ask that you take time to thoroughly read the plan and the metrics.
Our goal, as always, is to get our children back in-person, safely, five days a week. The criteria for determining which educational delivery model Yellow Springs Schools will be in – 100% Remote Learning, 50% In-Person Hybrid Learning Model, or 100% In-Person Learning Model – is detailed in our Educational Model Decision-Making Tree in the plan and is based on COVID-19 data.
Because the pandemic landscape is quite dark right now, we will look at identified metrics the Thursday before the start of the semester, January 14. As this is a fluid situation, these metrics will be reviewed each Thursday to determine our educational delivery model. This information will be prominently posted on our website. A sample of what this will look like is on our website now. Despite all of this preparation, we may still need to make adjustments along the way.
Here are several other important information items related to our return from Winter Break:
- To allow for sufficient quarantine time after the Winter Break, there will be NO Safe Centers for Online Learning (SCOLs) from Tuesday, January 5 through Friday, January 8, and there will be NO in-person activities on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. There will be remote-only learning the week of January 5-8, 2021.
- Even if we must remain completely virtual at the start of the second semester, parents who do not want their children back in the buildings in-person at any time during the second semester should register them for the 100% Online Experience through Greene County Online Learning Collaborative (GOLC). This is a semester-long commitment and your student(s) must be registered by Friday, January 8, 2021. If you have any questions about that program or would like to register your student, please contact our Student Services Director, Donna First, at firstname.lastname@example.org or (937) 767-7381.
- Our Application for Bus Transportation is now online. We ask families who think they will need busing at any point upon our return to complete an Application for Bus Transportation as soon as possible. This application is available on our Transportation webpage or by clicking here. Please note that we need a transportation form for each bus rider.
- There will be no food service delivery starting Monday, December 14, 2020, through Monday, January 4, 2021. Delivery will resume on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.
Again, do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our students, staff, and community safe.
